Wave 1 - Quality First Teaching and Ordinarily Available Guidance
Wave 1 refers to the universal offer for all children at Allens Croft Primary School.
Quality First Teaching
When teaching and learning is pitched and scaffolded correctly for every child through their preferred learning styles, there is a reduced need for additional support later on through wave 2 and 3 approaches.
Environment
Adaptations to the classroom such as light filtration, calm spaces and personalised workstations are all ways in which we can adapt the learning environment to support a child's needs.
Resources
Resources in the classroom may include visual symbols, visual time tables, now and next boards, task boards, emotion cards, coloured overlays, ear defenders, seating aids, writing slopes, pencil grips, word banks, spelling mats to name a few.
Staff
Adult support is available to chunk learning content, provide pre or post tutoring, begin a task, check-in throughout the lesson or facilitate movement breaks as part of our universal offer.
Our main guidance as to determining what is universal support is the Ordinarily Available Guidance which is available to download below.
