PE and Sports Premium

What is the PE and Sports Premium?

All children and young people should live healthy active lives.  Schools have a key role to play in achieving this aim.  This is particularly true of primary schools where the foundations of positive and enjoyable participation in regular physical activity are embedded.  All children should have equal access to high-quality PE provision and opportunities to experience and participate in a wide range of sports and physical activities.  Academic achievement can improve in school because of the benefits children can gain. The Government provides additional funding for schools to improve the provision of Physical Education (PE) and sport in primary schools.  This funding is called the P.E. and Sport Premium.

Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport that they offer.  This means that schools should use the premium to:

  • develop or add to the PE and sport activities that their school already offers

  • build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made to the quality of PE, sport and physical activity provision now are sustainable and will benefit pupils joining the school in future years.

Schools should prioritise PE and sport premium spending to improve in the following 5 key areas:

  • increasing all staff’s confidence, knowledge and skills in teaching PE and sport

  • increasing engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity and sport

  • raising the profile of PE and sport across the school, to support whole school improvement

  • offer a broader and more equal experience of a range of sports and physical activities to all pupils

  • increase participation in competitive sport

It is our intent that all pupils leaving Allens Croft Primary School and Resource Base are physically literate and have the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.  To achieve this, we have set up an action plan for P.E. and sport in our school, incorporating the PE and Sport Premium funding.

The professional development our staff receive with have a lasting impact on their teaching of PE.   As a school we will be able to continue to deliver high quality PE lessons after the funding has ended due to the upskilling of our staff.  The continuing elevation of the profile of PE and sport in school ensures that it will always be given a high priority and will play a key part in helping our pupils achieve healthy lifestyles.  Competitive sport continues to establish itself as a key element within PE and sport in our school, alongside other schools and external organisations.

Our current PE and Sport Premium plan for this academic year and our plan from the last academic year can be found below.
