Topic – Will you read me a story?
This half term our topic was called Will you read me a story? We have looked at a variety of fairy tales and traditional tales in English such as ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and ‘The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig’. We went to the Hippodrome to watch Snow White and we visited the local library.
This half term we have been working on developing our subtraction skills in Maths. We have explored different methods.
This half term we have been focusing on traditional tales. We have read a variety of different traditional and fairy tale stories, exploring each stories character and setting. Also, we read different versions of the same story and compared similarities and differences.
In our science lessons this half term, we have been learning about Everyday Materials. We have identified and named a variety of everyday materials, including wood, plastic, metal and rock.
Also, we completed an investigation to find the strongest material to make a house for the Three a Little Pigs. The children predicted which material they thought would be the strongest out of straw, blocks and lolly pop sticks. The children built 3 houses from the different materials and together we tested the materials strength to see which house the wolf could not blow down.
Topic – Yum Yum in my Tum
This half term our topic was called Yum, Yum in my Tum. We have been looking at what to include in a healthy meal and how we keep ourselves fit and healthy.
In maths, we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We have been creating repeated patterns and sorting 2D shapes. Also, we have been using the language edges, vertices and faces to describe the 3D shapes.
In English, we have reading Handa’s Surprise. We loved learning about all the different animals. Also, we had a taste of all the different fruits and thought of some fantastic adjectives to describe the taste and texture.
In English, we have been exploring The Twits by Roald Dahl. We have thought of some fantastic adjectives to describe the characters. Also, we have been looking at the features of letter writing. The children have written their own letters to the RSPCC to report The Twits for being cruel to the birds and monkey's.
In Maths this term we have been learning about place value and partitioning two- and three-digit numbers using Base 10. Also, we have been ordering numbers and using the language greater than and less than.
Topic - Street Detectives
This half term our topic is Street Detectives. In computing we used Google Maps to search for familiar places and our addresses. Also, we have looking at different kinds of homes from around the world.
This half term we have been focussing on Life Skills. We have been looking at some scenarios and knowing how to get help in an emergency and calling 999. We have also been learning about keeping ourselves safe and how to spot dangers and hazards around the home.
English – Term 3.2
In English we have been focusing on our letters and sounds and using our phonic knowledge to write our words independently. Also, we have been exploring the key features of a postcard and sequencing the story Katie Morag Delivers the Mail.
The Great Fire of London
In English, the children have enjoyed learning about The Great Fire of London and finding out lots of interesting fact. Also, the children had great fun performing the song London’s Burning.
Maths – Term 3.2
In Maths we have been looking at multiplication and division. The children have been using a variety of resources to support their learning.
Topic – Scented Garden
This half term our topic was called Scented Garden. We have been developing our understanding of plants and how they grow. Also, we have learnt lots of interesting facts in science about plants. The children also enjoyed planting a variety of seeds and bulbs.
English – Term 3.1
In English we have read the story Jack and the Beanstalk. We used lots of amazing adjectives to describe the characters. Also, we have been focusing on our punctuation.
In maths we have been learning about position and direction, the children gave directions to each other and used positional language. Also, we have been looking at different methods to record and present data by using pictograms, tally charts and bar graphs.
Topic – Potions
This half term our topic was called Potions. We have been learning about William Shakespeare and have discovered lots of interesting facts. Also, we have looked at properties and changes of materials in science.
English – Term 2.2
In English this term we have reading an extract from Alice in Wonderland and predicted what would happen next in the story. Also, we have be acting out the story of Romeo and Juliet and thought about how we could change the ending of the story. The children thought of some brilliant endings.
Maths – Term 2.2
In Maths this term we have focusing on capacity. We have using the language full; half full and empty and predicting what container could hold more. Also, we have been working on subtraction focusing on using different strategies.
Science Week – March 2019
During Science Week we looked at some images of dinosaurs and then created our own dinosaurs using modelling clay.
English – Term 2.1
In English this term we have been looking at a variety of instruction texts and have been focusing on imperative verbs. We have been writing instructions on how to make a sandwich and how to take care of fish.
Maths – Term 2.1
In Math’s this term we will be focusing number, including addition and fractions. We will also be using Numicon to support our learning.
Topic - Beachcombers
This half term our topic is called Beachcombers. We will be getting a fish tank in our classroom and make posters about how to keep our beaches clean. In science we will look at food chains and which materials we can recycle.
The children looked at a variety of Aboriginal artwork. We discussed the different colours and the technique used to create these images. We used warm colours and used the technique of finger painting to create our own fantastic pieces of artwork.
English – Term 1.2
In English, we read the story of Robin Hood and discussed what characters were heroes or villains. Also, we have been looking at autobiographies and biographies. The children wrote their own autobiographies and then researched some facts about Florence Nightingale and wrote a biography about her.
Maths – Term 1.2
In Maths we have been focusing measurement and how to measure in both non -standard and standard units. The children created their own Superheroes using 2D shapes and used rulers to measure the height and width of their Superheroes.
We have also revisited 2D and 3D shapes. Some of us have been creating repeating patterns using 2D shapes and others have been identifying and describing 3D shapes, including the number of edges, vertices and faces.
Term 1. 2
Topic – Heroes and Villains
This half term our topic was called Heroes and Villains. We have been looking at King John and have even created our own Magna Cartas as well as finding out about Florence Nightingale. Also, we have been looking at seasonal changes in science.
St Andrews Day
On 30th November it was St Andrews day. We learnt lots of interesting facts and even made some delicious shortbread.
During Anti – Bullying week we looked at all the different types of bullying and acted out different scenarios. Then discussed how we would feel and what we could do for each scenario. Also, we worked together to create a recipe for friendship and wrote kind words about our friends.
We have read a variety of fiction books about time capsules, dreams and memories in literacy. We read Grandpa Green and used adjectives to describe Grandpa’s memories. We watched Inside Out and explored different emotions. Also, the children acted out a story about a time capsule.
In Maths, we have been learning about the value of different coins and even solving money problems. We have been developing our understanding of telling the time and we even made our clocks to support us with identifying different times of the day e.g. lunch time and dinner time. We have also been exploring 2D and 3D shapes.
During our Maths lesson we visited the local shop. We wrote a shopping list of all the ingredients we needed to bake our cakes. When we got to the shop, we found the items on the list and wrote down how much item each cost. Then we paid for our shopping by identifying the correct coins.
We have also been exploring our measuring skills. Together we followed a recipe and used the measuring scales to weigh the correct amount of each ingredient.
This terms topic was called Memory Box. We have been learning about the evolution and inheritance in Science. We have also been very creative and created our own Memory Boxes which we have added photos of when we were younger and shared our special memories with each other.
At the end of term, Turtles performed their Memory Box assembly. The children shared their family portraits and memories and even sang the song We Are Family. All the children remembered their lines and spoke clearly. Well done Turtles!
The children had a challenge to create a container that would protect an egg from cracking or breaking from a high fall. They were given a variety of materials to make their container and to protect the egg. After they had designed their container, they placed the egg inside their container. We then went outside to test their design. Miss Easthope dropped the eggs from the same height. After the children looked to see if their egg was still intact and then we discussed what worked and what didn’t work. Everyone had great fun!
Our topic this half term was Brazil. We have learnt about the Amazon Rainforest and the animals that live there. We even created our own Rainforest!
In Literacy, we have been learning the key features of a newspaper report and even writing our own newspaper reports on African animals invading the classroom and trees crushing the school minibus. The children thought of some great headlines and have been adding lots of details about who, what, where, why and how. Some of us have also been using quotes!

Topic – Houses and Homes
Our topic this half term was Houses and Homes. The children have learnt about different kinds of houses and homes and looked at different houses around the world. They have also made different homes using construction.
In literacy this have term we have been focusing on our letters and sounds and using our phonic knowledge to write our words independently. We have also been identifying rhyming words and continuing rhyming strings.
In numeracy we have been learning about fractions and using different methods such as sharing and grouping. Also, we have been recognising different coins and the value they represent.
Our topic this half term was Bright Lights, Big City. The children found out all about London, including transport and famous landmarks. We discovered lots of interesting facts about the Queen and her family and wrote letters inviting the Queen for tea. We had lots of fun making cucumber and jam sandwiches and even decorated our own biscuits.
In Literacy this half term we have been reading and writing instructions using imperative verbs. The children sequenced pictures on how to make a cup of tea and then wrote they own set of instructions.
In numeracy, we have been focusing on division. We have also been learning about ordinal and odd and even numbers.
Our topic this half term is Towers, Tunnels and Turrets. The children will be learning all the different parts of a castle, all about castle life. We have also made our own castle from boxes and other materials.
Turtles had great fun learning all about Halloween. We discovered lots of interesting facts, made spooky smoothies and created some great art work.
In literacy, we have been acting out stories linked to castles, finding facts and information. Also, we have been describing knights and castles.
In numeracy, this half term we have been focusing on measuring and multiplication. We have also been practicing our basic skills.
