Online Safety Guidance for Parents/Carers
27th February 2019
A recent social media challenge targeting children and young adults called the ‘Momo Challenge’, has created concern throughout the country due to it’s disturbing nature. The purpose of this letter is to make you aware of this challenge, provide you with information about it, and urge you to monitor your children’s use of social media and the Internet. The ‘Momo Challenge’, a game found on Facebook, Whatsapp, YouTube and YouTube Kids, features a frightening avatar who asks its viewers to perform various tasks and provide photos as proof. The ‘Momo’ threatens those who do not perform the tasks.
In collaboration with the Local Authority and the National Online Safety organisation, social media risks will be addressed by class teams at an age appropriate level.
You can learn more about the ‘Momo Challenge’ and further online safety guidance by going to our school website and by clicking on the link below.
The website will also assist you in concerning age appropriateness for children’s use of technology and time spent on social media.
Thank you to those parents who have raised concerns already of what their children may have watched and have taken the appropriate action to further monitor their children’s usage. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Head Teacher, your child’s class teams or the Inclusion Team.
