City of Sanctuary
On Wednesday 5th April, a group of Year 5 children visited the Council House chamber in Birmingham City Centre to find out why Birmingham is a "City of Sanctuary". They learned about how many refugees and asylum seekers there are in the world and the struggles they have faced to find sanctuary in a safe country. We watched a powerful video that brought home the struggle some people face to find safety and security in the world and heard from some people who had found sanctuary in Birmingham speak about their experiences. The children had lots of ideas about how to make people welcome when they have been displaced from their home countries and discussed how we can make sure our school is a "School of Sanctuary" that welcomes all people irrespective of their background."
